Molini di Triora

Province: Imperia · Region: Liguria · Population: 626 · Postal code: 18010

The name comes from the water: in the thirteenth century twenty-three mills were built along the Argentina and the Capriolo, and for centuries they ground the grain of the whole valley. On 2 May 1654 Molini, Andagna and Corte declared themselves independent of Triora, and the Genoese Senate granted each of them its own autonomy.

In July 1944 the village was put on the list of those to be punished: the Nazi-fascists looted and blew up the houses, and of a hundred and fifty a hundred and four were hit, the town hall among them. There were twenty-nine victims, among them a group of men and a girl of sixteen, shut in a cellar in via San Bernardo and killed there. The population is 626.

Saint Lawrence, patron of a town born from independence from Triora in 1654

📅 Every year, on 10 August

Molini di Triora celebrates Saint Lawrence on 10 August, in the late Gothic church from 1486; the town was born from the declaration of administrative independence of the villages of Molini, Andagna and Corte from Triora, granted in 1654 by the Senate of the Republic of Genoa.
