Montalto Carpasio

This municipality was born on 1 January 2018 from the merger of Carpasio and Montalto Ligure: the first merger carried out in Liguria since the Republic. In the referendum the year before, seventy-seven per cent of those voting said yes; the seat is at Carpasio, the offices at Montalto.

In the parish church of Montalto there is a polyptych by Ludovico Brea of 1516, painted with his brother Antonio, and below the village the pieve of San Giorgio, of the twelfth century, with frescoes from the fourteenth to the sixteenth. At Carpasio the stone bell tower of the parish church leans visibly. The population is 517.
