Badalucco

Province: Imperia · Region: Liguria · Population: 1,190 · Postal code: 18010

At the entrance to the village there is a place called Campo Marzio, and local sources say that there, in 181 BC, the Ligurians gave battle to the Roman army. They lost, and with that defeat the western Riviera and its valleys passed to Rome.

The village is all stone houses and narrow lanes, closed off by two late-medieval humpback bridges, one at the way in and one at the way out; on a pier of one of them the chapel of Santa Lucia was built. Above, the church of San Nicolò stands on the ruins of the castle of the counts of Ventimiglia. The population is 1,190.
