The municipality is a line of six hamlets spread over five hundred metres of height, from the three hundred and fifty of Ponti to the nine hundred and thirty of the Nava pass, which is the watershed and the way through into Piedmont. In between, the basin faces south and the Alpine and the Mediterranean worlds meet.
Sitting on a pass has its price: in the war of 1625 the Piedmontese took Nava and came down on the castle of Pornassio, the Genoese took it back, and then sacked it themselves, suspecting the Scarella marquises of having helped Savoy — and they killed Ottavio Scarella. The population is 584.
