Giustenice

Province: Savona · Region: Liguria · Population: 946 · Postal code: 17027

The name comes from Jus Tenens, holding justice: after the Roman conquest the village became a seat of judicature, and the coat of arms carries the eagle and the scales. In front of the town hall, under the archway of piazza del Costino, the stone seat is still there where once a month the judge-podestà of Pietra sat to dispense justice.

Above the village, in the Bric Tampa, opens the cave of the Scogli Neri: some 2,250 metres of galleries, among the largest karst systems in Liguria, and out of it came potsherds from the Bronze Age and from Roman times. The population is 946.
