The parish church of Massimino is dedicated to Saint Donatus, patron of the municipality, celebrated on 7 August. It stands in the hamlet of San Vincenzo, which is also the seat of the town hall: in a scattered municipality like this one, church and council sit together because together they made the centre.
What to see
According to the historical sources the foundation goes back to the end of the eighteenth century, but the building you see today, baroque in style, was put up between 1818 and 1820. Not far off is the oratory of San Vincenzo Ferreri, built in 1797: it was the oratory of the Disciplinanti, for a time it served as the school, and today it houses the Pro Loco.
Visiting
San Vincenzo is one of the hamlets of Massimino, the least populated comune in the province of Savona and the only Ligurian one lying entirely in the Tanaro valley. The visit is short and is best combined with the other churches scattered among the hamlets, starting with San Giovanni Battista at Costa, the oldest in the area.
