Feast of San Domenico
📅 Every year, on the second Sunday of August
On the second Sunday of August Priola, a municipality of 719 inhabitants in the province of Cuneo, celebrates its patron San Domenico.
Priola sits on both banks of the Tanaro: the main village and Pievetta on the valley floor, Casario higher up on the right, where the Colle della Rionda leads over to Calizzano. The southernmost point is Monte Spinarda, on the watershed between Tanaro and Bormida. A document of 1033 names a church of San Desiderio here, and a castle.
That castle was partly destroyed in 1518, and its ruins still crown the rocky spur above the right bank. At Casario the parish moved house, from the church of San Giusto to the chapel of San Rocco, of 1630, with its frescoes. Around Monte Sotta and Monte Spinarda men fought through Napoleon's two Italian campaigns.
