Saint Victor, patron of Bottanuco
📅 Every year, on 8 May
Bottanuco celebrates Saint Victor on 8 May, in the church dedicated to him.
The coat of arms of Bottanuco is a summary of its history in four figures. The sword recalls 1398, when the Guelphs razed the village to the ground because some Ghibellines had taken refuge there; the field divided into blue and black stands for that same war between the two factions; the three reversed hearts come from the arms of Bartolomeo Colleoni, who held the territory in fief; and the goose quill is for the historian Giovanni Maria Finazzi, born here in 1802.
The comune also has an anthem, which is not common: it is the Marcetta bottanuchese, composed in 1927 by the bandmaster Luigi Madona and officially adopted on the hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the village folk group, which had been founded in 1867. In the parish church of San Vittore there is an organ built by the Serassi brothers in the middle of the nineteenth century, with two keyboards and more than two thousand pipes. The name of the village appears for the first time in a document of 980.
