Cedegolo

Province: Brescia · Region: Lombardy · Population: 1,246 · Postal code: 25051

The station of Cedegolo is not in Cedegolo: it stands on the other bank of the Oglio, in the territory of Sellero, and you get there by crossing a bridge. The village itself is wedged into a gorge so narrow that the Tonale trunk road struggles through it, squeezing between the old houses. The bridge over the Poia, in the middle of the village, dates from 1592.

On 31 August 1757 the Oglio and the Poia rose together more than seven metres above their normal level. A century later, in July 1866, a regiment of volunteers and a battalion of bersaglieri set out from here to enter Austrian Trentino by way of Lake Arno. Today Cedegolo houses the valley's museum of hydroelectric power.
