In the middle of a park at Casalbuttano stands a neo-Gothic tower called the Torre della Norma. It was built to record that Vincenzo Bellini stayed here, and it carries the title of his most famous opera; around it are a few pavilions in the same taste and the remains of the stables. It is a nineteenth-century folly raised in a village of silk mills, and it is at once a monument to a guest and to an opera.

Four thousand one hundred and three inhabitants in the province of Cremona. Silk made the village's fortune: in the mid-nineteenth century four steam-powered mills for treating cocoons were working here, out of twenty-one in the whole province, and textile work pushed the population past six thousand for decades, far more than today. The families that ran the place, the Jacini and the Turina, held the land and the factories together. In 1867 the municipalities of San Vito and Polengo were abolished and joined to Casalbuttano, which has been called ed Uniti, and united, ever since. The parish church of San Giorgio, built between 1620 and 1638, has a brick bell tower sixty-five metres high and an organ of 1831.
