The archives say little about Pieranica, but the little they say is all inside the coat of arms, which is a rebus. In the oldest documents the village is called Pilaranica, and from that heraldry drew its design: pila, which in Latin means ball, and a frog set on the green field to make up the second half of the name. It is a canting coat of arms, one of those in which the name is not written but drawn, following the medieval habit of letting a place be recognised even by those who could not read. The frog also says what you see around: a plain of water and good soil.

In the chief of the shield, instead, there is a lion walking, and that is no play on words: it comes from the arms of the Benzoni, lords of Crema, who held large properties at Pieranica. The coat of arms was resolved by the podestà on 15 April 1932 and granted by royal decree on 23 July 1937, but the banner that goes with it arrived only by a decree of 18 February 2011: nearly eighty years to complete the insignia of a village that a single provincial road, the Crema to Vailate, crosses from one side to the other.
