Capralba

Province: Cremona · Region: Lombardy · Population: 2,452 · Postal code: 26010

On the Treviglio-Cremona railway the trains used to pass through Capralba without stopping. The station was opened in 1914, and the source is explicit about why: at the request of the population. It has been there ever since, it serves the hamlet of Farinate too, and today a train an hour links it to Treviglio and Cremona, with some services running straight on to Milan. The rest of the village is made of water: the land is full of springs, so many that it has a park of them, and the resurgence watercourses have ended up in the coat of arms, granted in 2002, as a blue wavy band.

In that same coat of arms there are two more things, and they are the two hamlets. The tower recalls an old defensive building that stood at Farinate; the flax plant stands for the crop grown around Campisico, from where the best flax in the whole Crema district was thought to come. For Capralba, a place of medieval origin that has always belonged to the Crema country, was formed by accretion: in the Napoleonic period, between 1809 and 1816, Campagnola, Campisico and Farinate were joined to it, then became independent again with the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia; Campisico came back for good in 1819 and Farinate in 1868.
