Quintano has 910 inhabitants in the Cremasco, the part of the province of Cremona that looks towards Milan more than towards its own capital. In dialect it is Quintà. It is a very small village of the plain, and it sits in the middle of a handful of comuni just as small: Capralba, Casaletto Vaprio, Pieranica, Torlino Vimercati, Trescore Cremasco. It is one of the most fragmented corners of Lombardy, where every bell tower has stayed a comune of its own.
The territory is crossed by a single provincial road, the one that goes from Crema to Vailate, and there is no need of others: the village is all there, gathered around the parish church of San Pietro Apostolo. The coat of arms and the gonfalone arrived late, with a decree of the President of the Republic in 1989: before that Quintano did without those too.
