Cervignano d'Adda

Province: Lodi · Region: Lombardy · Population: 2,119 · Postal code: 26832

Until 1931 the village was called simply Cervignano, and in that year it had to add a river to its name so as not to be confused with Cervignano del Friuli. The rest of its history is made of masters who came from far away: in 1530 duke Francesco Sforza granted it in fief to Alessandro Remignani, then it passed to a Neapolitan family, the Tassis, who held it until 1782; and in the Napoleonic period it stopped being a comune at all, reduced to a hamlet of Quartiano.

Little that is old has survived: the parish church is from 1689 and stands where another one stood, of which nothing is left. In via della Chiesa, beside the roggia Bertonica, there is an icon of the Madonna painted on the wall next to the farmstead where the nuns lived until 1928, when they moved into palazzo Granata, today the town hall; the image was repainted in 1949 by the Lodi painter Cesare Minestra. All around, a dozen family farms.
