Mulazzano

Province: Lodi · Region: Lombardy · Population: 5,733 · Postal code: 26837

The name of Mulazzano comes from Mulatius or Mulacius, a Roman figure. In the Middle Ages the village followed the fortunes of Lodi; in 1546 the fief was sold to the Tassis princes, Neapolitans who lived in Milan, and at the end of the seventeenth century it passed to the Magnani.

Today's comune is made of pieces put back together more than once. In the Napoleonic period Cassino d'Alberi, Virolo and Isola Balba were attached to it, and they became independent again with the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia; then Virolo came back in 1841, and in 1869 it was the turn of Cassino d'Alberi, Isola Balba and Quartiano. The most notable building is the Villa d'Adda, which is said to go back to 1294 and has since been much altered: today it serves as the manor house of a farm.
