At San Pietro all'Olmo, a hamlet of Cornaredo, an eleventh-century Romanesque church survives from a monastery on the old road to Novara: a piece of the Middle Ages you don't expect in Milan's western hinterland. Around it, the town of 20,121 — Cornaree in dialect — lives its metropolitan life eleven kilometres from the Duomo.
The area keeps more farmland than its position suggests, agricultural park farmsteads recalling yesterday's rural calling. Rho and the trade-fair district are next door, and the transport links do the rest.
