Saint Teresa of Ávila, patron of the third Sunday of October
📅 Every year, on the third Sunday of October
Inveruno celebrates Saint Teresa of Ávila on the third Sunday of October; the other patron, Saint Martin, is celebrated on 11 November.
Inveruno's name probably goes back to Celtic times and is thought to come from Ever and Uno, the yew tree, from the supposed spread of yews there. Excavations in 1998 uncovered a Roman cemetery of about two hundred graves, in use between the first and the fourth century, with bronze mirrors, clay lamps and an eagle-shaped brooch: the reason may lie in the nearby consular road from Mediolanum to Novaria.
Inveruno had no arms of its own until 1910, using instead those of whichever feudal family held it. That year the council turned to the Milanese publisher Antonio Vallardi, who kept a heraldic archive, and the result gathered the Arconati points, the Lossetti stars, the Visconti serpent and Saint Martin, the patron. In 1941 the arms were remade from scratch for reasons still unknown: the present ones join the Maggi bands to the Lossetti leopard and stars.
