Saint Desiderius, patron of Correzzana
📅 Every year, on 23 May
Correzzana celebrates Saint Desiderius on 23 May, in the church dedicated to him.
Of monuments, at Correzzana, there are almost none: the village's history lies entirely in its old farmsteads and courtyard houses, which are called Guzzafame, Regondella, Rancaello, Santa Eufemia, San Giuseppe, Coste. The municipal arms too give up towers and lions and put on the field what was really there: a cow, two cockerels and ears of wheat, that is the livestock and the cereals. It is a peasant blazon, and in a province full of castles it stands out.
The name is said to come from the Latin corrigia, a strip of land, and appears as Corrozziana in a thirteenth-century document; the village belonged to the pieve of Agliate and followed its fortunes, passing to the Albuzzi and then to the Crivelli. In 1811, at Napoleon's will, it was united with Montesiro and Tregasio. Since the nineteen-sixties the population has begun to grow again, and between 1991 and 2021 it doubled: much of the credit goes to some large residential buildings, all identical to one another, put up in via Majorana, which by themselves house more than 500 people. Two thousand six hundred and fifty-seven inhabitants.
