The little church of Grugnotorto, known here as the Gesèta, had a bad end and then a good one: closed and deconsecrated in the 1970s, it ended up as a store for camping equipment. The village's Alpini restored it, and it was reconsecrated on 20 May 1990.
Above the altar is Saint Gratus turning a hailstorm into a well to save the harvest. There were harvests to save: in 1815 Carlo Porta placed Nova among the twenty comuni that made the best wine, then phylloxera took the vines, and silkworms were bred here until the 1920s. There are 22,315 residents.
