Cecima

Province: Pavia · Region: Lombardy · Population: 233 · Postal code: 27050

In 943 the kings Hugh and Lothair gave Cecima to the bishop of Pavia, and the bishop held it until the end of feudal rule. In 1419 bishop Pietro Grassi gave it its Statutes, which many municipalities around then copied to make their own: that book is in the coat of arms, held by a lion, together with a spotted orchid and a bell.

The fief was an island: the lands around belonged to the Malaspina, and the emperor Charles V recognised its independence. In 1928 Cecima was joined to Ponte Nizza and in 1956 it became a municipality again. Here they play the Apennine piffero, the instrument of the Four Provinces, and in the territory stands the observatory of Cà del Monte, opened in 2009.
