Brignano-Frascata

Province: Alessandria · Region: Piedmont · Population: 451 · Postal code: 15050

Brignano Frascata lies in the Val Curone, on the bank of the torrent that names the valley, and its farmland is almost all orchard. The comune is recent: it was formed in 1928 by merging Brignano del Curone with Frascata, and until 1947 it also held Momperone, now a comune again.

The hamlet of Serra del Monte is cut in two by the border between Piedmont and Lombardy: one settlement, two adjoining hamlets of the same name, the other in Cecima, province of Pavia. Neolithic finds have come to light there. Above the houses stands the castle, seventeenth-century in origin, rebuilt in medieval dress; in 1936 Alfonso Bruzzo of Genoa added the wing called the castelnuovo.
