On 8 September Livigno celebrates its patroness, Santa Maria Nascente, the Nativity of Mary, to whom the church of Santa Maria Nascente is dedicated. The patronal feast as it is held today is young: the first edition dates from 1999, and thanks to the Comitato Festa Patronale the religious occasion has taken on a folk character. Over the long day, besides Mass and the procession, there are moments that bring the whole community together.
The village calendar has other heartfelt dates. On 17 January, for Saint Anthony the Abbot, protector of animals, the breeders make their way to the church of Sant'Antonio through the streets of the centre, usually with horses, because the harsh climate makes it hard to move other animals.
