A navel halfway between Bologna and Modena
Bologna and Modena have argued for centuries over who invented the tortellino, and legend found the most diplomatic answer available: the innkeeper who peeked through a keyhole at the goddess Venus and copied her navel in pasta worked at the Corona inn in Castelfranco Emilia, the town on the Via Emilia road exactly halfway between the two rivals, in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region. The official filling recipe, though, was deposited in 1974 at the Bologna Chamber of Commerce. The argument goes on.
