On 13 December Serravalle di Chienti celebrates its patroness Saint Lucy; the Colfiorito plateau, within its territory, hosts the Montelago Celtic Festival.
Under the plateau there were lakes, and in the lakes hippopotamuses, elephants, rhinoceroses and a sabre-toothed tiger: the bones come from Collecurti, which is nine hundred thousand years old, and from Cesi, which is seven hundred thousand, and they are in the museum inside the town hall. In the tunnel dug to keep the plain of Colfiorito from turning into a marsh, the hearths of hunters also came to light.
The watershed of the Apennines passes here: the Chienti and the Potenza run down to the Adriatic, the Vigi flows into the Nera, the Nera into the Tiber and the Tiber into the Tyrrhenian; the rain that falls on the village ends up in two different seas. To dry the plateau, in the fifteenth century Giulio Cesare da Varano had the Botte dug, a channel which, as its restoration revealed, the Romans had already made before him.
