Sassofeltrio

Province: Pesaro and Urbino · Region: Marche · Population: 1,445 · Postal code: 61013

In 1463 Federico da Montefeltro took and destroyed the castle of the Sasso; to rebuild it he sent Francesco di Giorgio Martini, who gave it a spear-point bastion, «a solid triangle with flanking fire». A few years later duke Guidobaldo, before going into exile, had all his fortresses pulled down so as not to leave them to Cesare Borgia.

The village voted in 2007 to leave the Marche, and the passage to the province of Rimini came fourteen years later, on the seventeenth of June 2021. Part of its territory, the hamlets of Ca' Micci and Ca' Gostino, is cut off from the rest and wedged between San Marino, San Leo and an exclave of Verucchio.
