On 13 May Casalciprano, a municipality of 571 inhabitants in the province of Campobasso, celebrates its patron Saint Cristanziano.
The name probably comes from a casale, a farmstead, to which Ciprano was added later — perhaps a Lombard founder, though nothing documents it. Of the feudal past the ducal palace survived until the earthquake of 1805 brought it down completely; the last duke left for Naples and never came back.
Casalciprano now has 571 residents and has chosen to tell its own story through a museum of peasant memory: tools, trades, rooms put back the way they were. Outside the village, among the chestnut trees, stands the sanctuary of the Santissima Annunziata.
