The d’Evoli castle stands sheer above the Biferno valley, on the drove road from Lucera to Castel di Sangro: Giovanni d’Evoli put it up in 1362 over a Samnite fort. They say it had three hundred and sixty-five rooms, one for every day of the year. Of the eighteenth-century staircase nothing is left: bombing, and restoration that came too late.

Another d’Evoli, Andrea, counsellor to Alfonso of Aragon, wrote in 1447 the De mena pecudum, rules for flocks moving along the drove roads. The castle also carries the story of the Fata, the bride who threw herself off the crag rather than spend her first night with the duke: the place is still the cantone della Fata. 1,029 people live in the village.
