On the coat of arms two hands are clasped: the grip comes from an ancient Oscan-Samnite funerary stele, where a married couple are joined in the dextrarum iunctio, the ceremonial handshake of the wedding.

The Ruffo castle was begun by the Lombards; today it has the shape of a baronial palace with four cylindrical towers, the shape given to it by the restoration after the 1805 earthquake. The neoclassical church of San Michele Arcangelo was consecrated in 1818. In the former town hall is the civic museum named after the architect Giuseppe Barone, who left his collection there: two rooms, with a painting by Giuseppe Palizzi and one attributed to Jusepe de Ribera. There are 2,732 residents.
