Saints Nazarius, Celsus and Victor, patrons since 1076
📅 Every year, on 28 July
Trivento celebrates Saints Nazarius, Celsus and Victor on 28 July; the town's cathedral, built over an ancient altar to the goddess Diana, was dedicated to them in 1076.
Under the cathedral lies the early Christian crypt of San Casto: seven small naves with cross vaults, and by the saint's tomb a medieval relief of the Trinity between two angels and two dolphins.
The cathedral was consecrated in 1076, when Trivento became a bishop's seat, and it still is one. Just outside stands the sanctuary of Santa Maria a Maiella, wanted by Celestine V, the pope of the great refusal, who was born a few kilometres from here. The castle at the top of the town was sold in 1807 by the last feudal lord for 4,100 ducats to the Colaneri family, and to the Colaneri it still belongs. The 4,812 residents live above the Trigno valley.
