Feast of Saint Blaise and the Rite of Bread and Wine
📅 Every year, on 3 February
On 3 February San Biase celebrates its patron Saint Blaise with the «rite of bread and wine»: blessed loaves, the anointing of the throat and the game of morra.
The Cavaliere di San Biase turned up in these fields: the remains of a Samnite horseman that make up the largest equestrian sculptural group ever found in an Italic context. For a village of 209 people — among the smallest in Molise — it is a wildly outsized find.
On 3 February, for San Biagio, the village children go round handing out blessed loaves, in church the throats are anointed and outside people play morra over the local wine, Tintilia. August belongs to Santa Pia, whose relics were bought from the catacombs of Priscilla.
