Behind the altar of the church of the Santi the scales are still there, the ones the children were weighed on: to have them blessed by San Donato, the protector of epileptics — in dialect epilepsy is the sickness of San Donato — families gave as much wheat as the child weighed.

Today's village, 987 residents under Monte Miletto, was born lower down after the old one was razed: in 1220 Frederick II ordered the demolition of every fortress that might be a danger; the castellan Tommaso da Celano disobeyed and shut himself in with his wife and children. He slipped out one night to retake the castle of Celano; his wife Giuditta held on until 1223, then handed over the weapons.
