Feast of Saint George and Fair
📅 Every year, on 23 April
On 23 April Carpeneto celebrates its patron Saint George with the Fiera di San Giorgio; in August the «Notte Magica», the Ostrich Festival and the Festa del Borgo Sant'Alberto are held.
Carpeneto sits in the Alto Monferrato, on a ridge that parts the waters between the Orba stream and the river Bormida. It turns up as Castrum Carpani in a document of 999, the same year a Saracen raid destroyed the convent of San Donino, on what is now the Tenuta Magnona.
Those who lived around the convent fled and settled higher up, out of the raiders' way: that is the hamlet of Madonna della Villa. Carpeneto later belonged to the Aleramici, marquesses of Monferrato, confirmed by Barbarossa in 1164. The arms carry a blue square tower on a green hill, ringed by a vine branch with six silver bunches.
