Feast of San Bartolomeo
📅 Every year, on 24 August
On 24 August Morsasco, a municipality of 712 inhabitants in the province of Alessandria, celebrates its patron San Bartolomeo.
The arms of Morsasco carry what still stands above the village: a castle with Guelph merlons on a blue field. Castle and tower are recorded from the thirteenth century, and the place served as a defensive work before becoming a private house; it keeps a room for the old game of pallacorda, and in the cells the prisoners' drawings and scratches remain on the walls.
It was the marchese Pallavicino who restored it late in the nineteenth century. Lower down, the village gathers round the clock tower, pierced by an archway, and the house everyone calls del Boia, dated 1697; the parish church of San Bartolomeo is sixteenth-century.
