Feast of San Bartolomeo with raviolata
📅 Every year, on 24 August
On 24 August Melazzo, a municipality of 1,315 inhabitants in the province of Alessandria, celebrates its patron San Bartolomeo with the raviolata.
In the castle of Melazzo, in 1004, was born Saint Guido of the counts of Acquesana, later bishop of Acqui and its patron. A plaque in the castle tells another story: Edward II of England, deposed by his son, would not have died at Berkeley but would have spent part of his last years here. The name may go back to Melacius, who owned the farm.
The eighteenth-century parish church of San Bartolomeo closes the square with its brick front, flanked by the square bell tower and the oratory of San Pietro Martire, at least of the sixteenth century. Across the Erro, the octagonal fort of Montecrescente is also called Tinazza, from its upturned-vat shape.
