Mirabello Monferrato

Province: Alessandria · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,401 · Postal code: 15040

The oldest core is called the recinto, a low rise in the hollow of the Garavalde and Campostrina streams. They explain why in 1450 San Sebastiano, the first parish church, was set above the square. San Vincenzo replaced it: brick front freed from plaster in 1947, the patron in niches among everyday scenes.

In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the community and the marquis Natta clashed before the Senate of Casale, over Mirabello water running through Baldesco and the right of passage in the meadows of Bocca di Preiso. The quarrel came to blows: the notary sent to investigate was beaten and relieved of his papers. Baldesco joined the commune only in 1797, when the fiefs ended.
