Feast of Saint Valerius
📅 Every year, on 22 January
On 22 January Occimiano celebrates its patron Saint Valerius, after whom the town's church is named, identified with Valerius of Saragossa.
Occimiano, Aussimian in Piedmontese, lies in the province of Alessandria. Its coat of arms, drawn up in the Risorgimento, invents nothing of its own: it borrows the two best-known quarters of the Savoy arms, the Moors of Sardinia and the crowned eagle with spread wings, the Savoy shield on its breast. The gonfalon repeats the pairing, red over white.
The parish church is dedicated to San Valerio. Its bell tower is in bare brick, with two tiers of arched openings, the clock above the bells and a pale spire rising over the village roofs.
