Feast of Saints Peter and Paul
📅 Every year, on 29 June
On 29 June Pareto, a municipality of 602 inhabitants in the province of Alessandria, celebrates its patrons Saints Peter and Paul.
The name of Pareto goes back to an old root meaning rock, stone, slope: the village set on a hill. It entered the Aleramic March and in 1142 became a fief of the Del Carretto, but its real ties, of language and of trade, were always with Savona and the Ligurian coast: until the first of January 1880 Pareto belonged to the province of Genoa, not to Alessandria.
Above the houses stand the parish church of San Pietro and the castle, now a private home, in whose cellars local legend hides a golden calf. Beside the church, the seventeenth-century oratory changed trade: after the Second World War it became a cinema and theatre.
