Mioglia

Province: Savona · Region: Liguria · Population: 539 · Postal code: 17040

In the Gallery of Maps in the Vatican Museums, frescoed between 1580 and 1585, Mioglia appears on the map of Liguria: a village of a few hundred people, painted on the pope's wall.

The mule caravans between the coast and Piedmont passed through here, and in the palace the Scarampi built for themselves in 1687 there were rooms to put the drivers up for the night. Of the castle, razed by the Spanish army in the seventeenth century, a few stones are left. The first mention of the village, as Meolia, is in a diploma of Otto I of 967. The population is 539.
