Feast of Saints Peter and Paul
📅 Every year, on 29 June
On 29 June Quattordio, a municipality of 1,668 inhabitants in the province of Alessandria, celebrates its patrons Saints Peter and Paul.
The name comes from a milestone: fourteen Roman miles from Hasta, ancient Asti, Quattuordecimum in Latin. The stone is thought to have stood in front of the parish church, and the town's arms still show it with the figure XIV. Quattordio appears in an official document in 1159, among the forty-six villages that Barbarossa, having subdued Asti, undertook to hold under his authority.
Palazzo Olivazzi closes a huge farm court of bare brick, known as Cascina Palazzo. The stable of seven vaults, with the hayloft above, went up in 1844 with walls over a metre thick: to fire those bricks, the story goes, a kiln was built inside the courtyard, with local clay.
