Rocchetta Tanaro

Province: Asti · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,437 · Postal code: 14030

The Tanaro made this village: the first inhabitants came along the river at least four thousand years ago and settled on the bends and rises the river had formed, and the ground still gives up shells and mastodon remains. The same river, in November 1994, put almost the whole of the built-up area under water. The comune holds the silver medal for military valour, for what its people endured and for the partisan struggle.

Within the municipal boundaries lies the nature park that carries the village name: thick woodland where the beeches reach a good size, grey trunks running straight up the slope before they open into crown.
