Feast of Saint Christopher
📅 Every year, on 7 January
On 7 January San Cristoforo celebrates its patron Saint Christopher, whose name became part of the town's own name; the Castello di San Cristoforo stands here.
San Cristoforo sits on a plateau to the left of the Lemme, between the Ovada country and Gavi, and belongs to the Novese, the district named after Novi Ligure. It grew along the road to ancient Libarna, around a lookout tower, the Torre del Gazzolo, which the castle later swallowed.
In 1313 emperor Henry VII granted the fief to the Spinola di Luccoli, and an imperial fief it stayed until 1732, when Savoy took it over. The castle is a group of buildings inside walls that takes in the parish church too; the core is a quadrangle with its moat, and the tower still rises above the roofs on its corbelled crown.
