Feast of the Nativity of Mary
📅 Every year, on 8 September
On 8 September Belveglio, a municipality of 326 inhabitants in the province of Asti, celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In the Middle Ages this village in the Asti hills was called not Belveglio but Malamorte, and the name probably comes from the endless fighting that swept them, enough to be thought lands of bad death. Its first lords were the Turco, an Asti noble family; Raimondo Turco also held Mombercelli and was buried in Asti, in the church of Sant'Antonio.
In 1387 the village appears in the dowry of Valentina Visconti, who was marrying Louis of Valois, and the name is thought to have become Belvedere about then. The last change came in 1806, when Napoleon placed it in the department of Marengo and Belvedere turned into Belveglio.
