Feast of Saint Vincent
📅 Every year, on 22 January
On 22 January Vinchio, a municipality of 657 inhabitants in the province of Asti, celebrates its patron Saint Vincent; among the town's sites is a fossil observation area.
Documents of the eleventh century call the place Viginti: the name would count the twenty Roman miles of a route perhaps starting from Alessandria or Acqui Terme, though others think it merged with the Celto-Ligurian root vi-nt, high ground. The village follows a ridge on the right bank of the Tiglione, where three Roman roads met: Ramaudio, Luparia and Fonsmagna.
Among the hamlets is Bric Tre Vescovi, at 255 metres, where the dioceses of Alessandria, Acqui and Asti met; the Barbera grown there takes the hamlet's name. The parish church of Santi Marco e Vincenzo, enlarged in the eighteenth century, raises a brick bell tower with two clock faces over the roofs.
