Berzano di San Pietro

Province: Asti · Region: Piedmont · Population: 431 · Postal code: 14020

The original form of the name is Briscianum, built on a Gallo-Roman personal name; in Piedmontese it is still called Bersan. Berzano is recorded in documents from 1148. In 1226 it came under the overlordship of the marquises of Montferrat, while ownership belonged to the canonry of Vezzolano: two authorities over the same village.

The name carries Saint Peter, the village patron, and the coat of arms repeats it: on a red field a silver hand with part of the forearm, cut off and seen from the back, grips the apostle's two gold keys crossed. The houses are scattered: the two hamlets are called Valle Gervasio and Valle Ochera.
