Casalborgone

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,820 · Postal code: 10020

The first written mention here is a diploma of 7 May 1000: the bishop of Vercelli obtained from Emperor Otto III, together with property taken from Arduin of Ivrea, confirmation of other places, some of them in the hills south of the Po. The name appears in a parchment of 1265, kept at Chivasso, as Casale Bergonis.

The castle in via Broglia, inside a park, is now a hotel with a restaurant. Citizens started the village's first library in the early twentieth century as a lending library, backed by the Società Operaia: most of its books were gathered then, some from the eighteenth century, and its statute is still there.
