Our Lady of Mount Carmel, patron of the land of the Bicycle Museum
📅 Every year, on 16 July
Castello di Annone celebrates Our Lady of Mount Carmel on 16 July.
The name is a number: from the Latin ad nonum, at the ninth, because the village lies nine Roman miles from Asti. That spot on the road made its fortune: in the Middle Ages it was a forced crossing, and it grew into a thriving centre of merchants and money men.
That prosperity lasted until 1644, when Spanish attacks destroyed the village. Much later, in November 1994, it was water that did the damage: the Tanaro left its bed and flooded the municipal land.
