The patroness of Chiusano d'Asti is the Madonna del Carmine (Our Lady of Mount Carmel), celebrated on 16 July; the municipality holds the church of the Madonna del Carmine.
Chiusano d'Asti is perhaps the only village in the province to have kept alive the tradition of the «pessera»: at the birth of a son the whole village celebrates by carrying a long pessera on shoulders in procession through the streets at dusk, up to the newborn's farmyard, where it is planted, decorated at the top with the Italian flag and other objects symbolising what is wished for the future man. Only the conscripts carry it; the rite is repeated at eighteen, at the conscripts' party. Since 1959 the rite has become a celebration for all births, of boys and girls.
