Province: Asti · Region: Piedmont · Population: 541 · Postal code: 14020

Cossombrato, Cossombrà in Piedmontese, is a village of the Astesana, held in the Middle Ages by the bishops of Asti. In 1290 the Guelph and Ghibelline fighting reached it. Its feudal lords were the Pelletta, bankers from Asti with lending houses in the Aosta Valley and Savoy; the town's rampant lion comes from their arms.

In 1320 the Pelletta built the castle, where they sheltered during their quarrel with the Solaro. Altered over the centuries, it keeps its main structures and stands above the street behind a brick wall, with a round corner tower and a small clock. The church of San Rocco dates from 1700; writings of the time say it was raised against foot-and-mouth disease.
