Cinaglio stands on a hilltop, though it must once have lain lower down. Its name would seem to come from the Latin cenaculum, an inn: a resting place on the road linking Hasta with Industria. In 962 the emperor Otto I handed the village to the bishop of Asti.
It was later free land, under no feudal lord until 1619, when the county of Chiusano-Cinaglio went to the Caissotti; the Latin motto on its arms says it goes on its way with renewed strength. The baroque parish church of Santi Felice e Giorgio keeps its brick front bare, and the bell tower beside it holds the clock below the belfry.
