Feast of Saints Fausto and Felice
📅 Every year, on 11 September
On 11 September Cocconato, a municipality of 1,564 inhabitants in the province of Asti, celebrates its patron saints Fausto and Felice.
In the Middle Ages the village was the chief seat of the Radicati, counts of Cocconato, and held an imperial fief until 1586. The comune took over their arms: a crowned gold eagle on black and, below, an uprooted chestnut. Their time left the town hall, a rare civic building in late Gothic style; the parish church of Santa Maria della Consolazione is seventeenth-century.
Between 1940 and 1943 seventy foreign Jews from eastern Europe, families with children among them, were confined here: not a camp, but forced residence. When the Germans came the group scattered and all got away, most of them reaching Switzerland; nobody was arrested at Cocconato.
